Sami Moubayed is a Syrian historian and former scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. He has covered Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq for the past twenty years, writing for a variety of newspapers that include Huffington Post, Gulf News, Asia Times, and The Daily Star. He is also a Research Fellow at St Andrews University in Scotland and author of “Under the Black Flag: At the Frontier of the New Jihad” (IB Tauris, London 2015).
