Dr. Amal Sakr is an Egyptian political researcher, specializing in the affairs of the GCC states in general and Saudi Arabia in particular. She has been the deputy director-general of HARF& FASELA Media in Abu Dhabi since November 2018.
Dr. Sakr worked at the Future Center for Advanced Research & Studies from the time of its establishment in Abu Dhabi, in April 2014. Beginning as head of the Political Transitions Unit, she was the chief editor of the Center’s periodical Trending Events. In 2015, she became the Center’s deputy director for executive affairs, holding the post until October 2018.
Previously, Dr. Sakr worked as a senior researcher specializing in political science at several think-tanks, including the Executive Office in Dubai from 2008 to 2010, and at the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research in Abu Dhabi from 2000 to 2008 and from 2010 to 2012. She worked at the Third World Forum-Egypt 2020 project in Cairo from 1997 to 1999.
Dr. Sakr graduated from Cairo University in 1996 and received a master’s degree in international relations in 2000, before attaining her PhD in political reform in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2014. She is a member of the Middle East Studies Association (MESA) in the United States and a member of the Arab Society for Political Science.
In addition, Dr. Sakr has published numerous research papers and articles in various periodicals and newspapers, most focused on the Gulf region. She has contributed to developing and writing several policy papers and recommendations for decision-makers. And she has participated in many regional and international symposia and conferences.
